The long-lasting battle between Google & Amazon has ended and services are back on opposing platforms. Official YouTube app is back on Amazon FireTV devices while Amazon has restored Prime services on Chromecast as well as Android TV.

It’s a prime time for all to start enjoying these services with official support with an extended feature set. It was all missing in unofficial ones with compatibility issues here and there.

HISTORY

The fight started almost a year and a half ago, and both companies withdrew their apps and services from other platforms.

“​We’ve been trying to reach an agreement with Amazon to give consumers access to each other’s products and services. But Amazon doesn’t carry Google products like ChromeCast and Google Home, doesn’t make Prime Video available for Google Cast users, and last month stopped selling some of Nest’s latest products. Given this lack of reciprocity, we are no longer supporting YouTube on Echo Show and FireTV. We hope we can reach an agreement to resolve these issues soon.”

Nothing but this resulted in customers inconvenience, where they resorted to alternatives. Alternatives worked ok but were not at par with official services.

APPS & SERVICES ARE BACK

Recently in April 2019, both companies announced that later this year they will restore the apps and services on other’s platform. Now that’s happening. It took a while before these apps were made available on other’s platforms.

As of 9 July 2019, YouTube is back worldwide on Fire TV Stick (2 nd Gen), Fire TV Stick 4K, Fire TV Cube, Fire TV Stick Basic Edition, and Toshiba, Insignia, Element, and Westinghouse Fire TV Edition smart TVs , and Prime is back on Chromecast, ChromeCast built in devices, as well as AndroidTV. YouTube TV and YouTube Kids on FireTV services will follow soon.

So this is something to rejoice at. Many users were complaining for same since a long time. Hopefully companies listened to them.
